\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
Micronutrients are important for crop production and their availability in soil can rapidly decrease due to their chemical properties. Hence, in this experiment rice (\textit{Oryza sativa} L.) varieties were sprayed with chelated zinc sulfate to investigate its subsequent effects on plant  growth under field conditions, in 2010. The experiment was performed in the Rice Research Station of Shiroudi, Tonekabon, Iran, on the basis of a completely randomised block design with five levels of chelated zinc sulfate at control, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and \mbox{0.8\,\%} with \mbox{13\,\%} purity. The chelated compound was sprayed on rice plants in plots measuring 3 × \mbox{6\,m}. Accordingly, the plant height and tillers as well as chlorophyll concentration and harvest index of rice varieties were determined. Performance indicators were also measured, including economic and biological yield, harvest index and concentration of chlorophyll. Sampling frequency was six times during the growing period depending on the plant growth stage and the treatment used. The data was analysed using MSTAT C and graphs were plotted by Excel. The results showed that concentrations of 0.2 and \mbox{0.4\,\%} of chelated zinc sulfate resulted in the highest plant height of 111 and \mbox{107\,cm}, respectively. Tiller number and concentration of chlorophyll in the second and third treatment (29 and 26, respectively) were the lowest in the control group. Moreover, harvest index in treatment 2 and 3 were respectively equal to \mbox{46\,\%} and \mbox{43\,\%} using Duncan's multiple range comparison at $p = 0.01$. Spraying rice plants with chelated zinc sulfate can be a suitable method to supply the necessary Zn for rice plants resulting in increased yield production and enhanced grain quality. }
