The Acacia seyal var. seyal, which grows throughout the African gum belt, is a widespread multipurpose tree species known as gum talha tree in Sudan. In the southern and western Sudan, it is one of the most common trees in the savannah and often occurs as a pure forest over quite large areas of country. It is an important source of rural energy as both fuelwood and charcoal and are viewed favourable as forage. The tree is frequently affected by biotic factors among them the insect pests. During a survey in the 1980´s the tree was severely infested by the longhorned beetles (Cerambycidae). Thus, the objective of a field study that was conducted in May-July 2007 in northern and southern Kordofan state (Sudan) was to assess infestation characteristics, and environmental factors triggering the attack of longhorned beetles (e.g. crown size, crown diameter, tree age, tree height and diameter in breast height). Infestation rates of trees on the study sites (n = 2) ranged between zero and \mbox{23.08\,\%}. At the first study site which is Um Fakarain natural reserve forest study site, most of plots show infestation ranged between \mbox{7\,\%} and \mbox{23\,\%}, while others show no infestation, the obtained results from the second study site , Simaih agricultural project study site show no infestation for all plots. It could be recommended that the longhorned beetles need more ecological research on the A. seyal trees also the need for forest extension service to diffuse knowledge of insect pests on A. seyal trees in addition to extension messages concerning the ideal management of trees to the farmers who are benefits from Talha trees }
