In order to evaluate the effect of different nitrogen application methods on yield and yield components of winter wheat, a field experiment with split plot arrangement in completely randomised blocks with four replicates was conducted in 2006 growing season. Basal dressing in three levels (with no basal dressing, strip and distributing nitrogen fertiliser) as main plot and top dressing in six levels (distributing on tillering, two distributing on tillering and before spike appearance, water soluble fertilising with herbicide application before spike appearance, two water soluble fertilising on tillering and before spike appearance, two application: one distributing on tillering and one water soluble fertilising before milking period and finally, three water soluble fertilising on tillering, before spike appearance and milking period) as subplot was carried. The amount of fertiliser in strip application was half of distributing method. In the compartmented application, the amount of applied fertiliser was two third of distributing fertiliser method. The highest biomass was recorded in fertiliser distribution method (1909 grm$^{-2}$) which was 14 percent and 28 percent higher in comparison with basal dressing and no basal dressing, respectively. Distributing fertiliser produced the highest grain yield (852.5 grm$^{-2}$); however, the difference with strip application was not statistically significant. Top dressing affected grain yield and the greatest yields was observed in one phase distributing, two phase distributing, distributing plus water soluble fertilising and two phase water soluble fertilising with herbicide. Grain production in these treatments was statistically greater than two and three phase water soluble application of nitrogen fertiliser.
