\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
The objective of this paper is to see the role that nutrition can play in economic development of developing countries like that of Pakistan. The overarching goal to compare the nutrition and its impact on development with that of traditional measures of health liked life expectancy, fertility, health care expenditures in per capita terms and mortality on development. The study uses data from Pakistan on annual basis from 1972 to 2008. Well established macro"=econometric techniques of unit roots co"=integration and weak exogeneity tests are employed. While, general to specific modelling approach of Hendry is also used in vector error correction modelling form for analysing the data. The unit root analysis of the data tells that all variable series contain unit roots and hence are I (1). Therefore, first differencing is carried out to remove the trend as well as log form is used for stabilising variances of the series. Co"=integration analysis estimated a single rank meaning that the dependent and independent variables are in long run relationship. The long run Johansson normalised estimates (i.e., long run elasticity) of the nutrition is greater than that of life expectancy, fertility, mortality and health care expenditures per capita, meaning that nutrition in economies like Pakistan, mostly agrarian focus economies, needs much attention towards ensuring availability of proper food and diet to their population. As agriculture is a labour intensive sector and needs manual power to carry out the different tasks therefore, the role of nutrition is robust in agrarian economy. Government has to ensure the smooth supply of food and nutrition to the whole population for increasing their living standard and increasing their productivity. Also by providing well nourished diet to majority population government can fulfil both the goals of reducing hunger and malnutrition as well as giving better health to the people of Pakistan. }
