One of the main economical activities developed in natural protected areas in México is the ecotourism. The mexican norm NMX-AA-133-SCFI-2006 promotes the sustainable ecotourism as a strategy for natural resource management involving indigenous and rural enterprises. In the year 2008, 5 ecotouristic centres were certified and 5 started the certification process in the biosphere reserve ``Montes Azules''. What is the difference concerning knowledge, skills and interest between the certified and not certified enterprises? The present paper is the result of a comparative analysis between these ecotouristic centres in Chiapas, Mexico.







Through a semi"=structured survey was identified the general profile of the ecotouristic centre's leaders, the association between visitor's nationalities with their environmental impacts; the differences, similarities and correlations statistically significant between knowledge and attitudes; the capability to implement the norm with their own resources; their priorities according the norm, as well as the expected benefits with the certification of the Mexican norm for sustainable ecotourism.







In summary, the ecotouristic centres of the biosphere reserve Montes Azules were created 7 years ago, their main visitors are from Europe, and the Mexican tourism causes the highest environmental impact; the certification improved the knowledge of the ecotouristic centre's leaders, although there is no significant correlation between knowledge and attitudes.  It means that the improvement of knowledge has not improved the sustainable practices, although is a main component to do it. 







The main concern of communitarian enterprises is waste management, followed by water pollution and the certified centres feel more able to apply the norm by them self than the not certified. Finally, the expectatives from the certification are mainly to improve economical incomes.
