Bangladesh is a South Asian densely populated country. The total population of Bangladesh is 160 million with an average population density is about 1,084 per square kilometer. Among of them \mbox{73\,\%} of population is living in the rural areas. Only \mbox{18.7\,\%} of rural households have access to electricity. Bangladesh has good potential for utilising renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar, wind and mini"=hydro to produce electricity. Since the economy of Bangladesh depends principally on agriculture. The main crops are rice, sugar cane, vegetables, wheat, jute, pulses, coconuts, maize, cotton and groundnuts. These crops generate large quantities of residues. Also fuel wood from existing forests, tree residues and saw dust is another source of biomass in Bangladesh too. 



Bangladesh is facing crucial energy crisis now a days. The electricity demand is expected to grow at the rate of 8--\mbox{10\,\%} per annum. As such, the demand is expected to rise to about 6,608 MW by 2010. 



After analysing the biomass potential the researcher found that total annual generation and recoverable rates of biomass in Bangladesh are 165.014 and \unitfrac[85.362]{Mtonne}{year}, respectively. Using the lower calori\&\#64257;c values of the individual biomass components, the energy potential for Bangladesh is 1,291.17 PJ or 358,658 GWh. The biomass projects carried out in the country are financially viable under some conditions. 



CO$_{2}$ Emission is increasing day by day. Bangladesh is facing lots of natural calamities. If the level of water rise \mbox{153\,cm} in 2050 Bangladesh will loose 16 sq km of land and \mbox{13\,\%} population will not have any place to live. Considering the fact Bangladesh Government adopted climate change action plan in 2008. 



According to the outcome from this study it can be said that Bangladesh has a good potential for more efficient utilisation of bio energy resources beside food security. The bio energy projects are sustainable under certain conditions too. Necessary steps should be done by the government to promote biomass energy in Bangladesh.
