In this research, the effect of some soil factors on the distribution of Artemisia fragrans was studied in \mbox{10000\,ha} in Halichal, Iran. Random-Systematic sampling method was considered in three different altitudes to determine the place of 128 releves. Vegetation composition was estimated in all 2*\mbox{2\,m} releves according to Braun-Blanket method. The physical and chemical properties of soil (pH, EC, Texture, Ca and K) were estimated using a three sub"=sample in two different depths (0--10 and 10--\mbox{30\,cm}) in each releve. General Linear Model was used to compare the total cover of A. fragrans between three different altitudes and two different aspects as well. To study on the distribution of target species (A. fragrans), TWISPAN was firstly used to separate ecological groups using PC-Ord program. In addition, DCA and CCA were used to study the effect of soil characteristics on the distribution of plant species. The results showed that in the highest and lowest altitudes, the target species had more percentage cover than the intermediate altitude. The most important factors affected on the distribution of plant communities were K and pH in the upper layer, while there was no significant relationship between the distribution of species and soil characteristics in the deeper layer. The most important factors on the cover percentage of the target species were pH and EC in the depth of 0--\mbox{10\,cm}. It seems that the shallow"=distribution of species roots in the area would prevent to appear a significant effect of deep soil factors on the species distribution. Therefore, to manage of Artemisia fragrans, the measures should be focused on the upper layer of soil.  }
