The study was carried out in Ilam Oak forest located in west of Iran. The objective of this research was to determine the plant ecological groups and site classification. The field data were collected using of 117 plots and Sampling method was systematic"=random. The size of sampling plots varied from 20 m×\mbox{20\,m} for the tree and shrub species to \mbox{1.5\,m} ×\mbox{1.5\,m} for herbaceous species. The factors including tree and shrub species types, number, and canopy coverage were recorded by measuring their small/large diameters in each plot. In order to record the herbaceous species, the Whittaker's nested plot method was used. For studying soil factors in each plot, soil sample from 0--\mbox{20\,cm} depth collected and analysed in laboratory. Multivariate analysis methods were used to classify and determine relationships between species composition and environmental factors and also to recognise ecological species group, using PC-ORD and SPSS. The results indicated that five ecological groups were in the study area. Cerasus microcarpa was indicator species in first group. This group had high correlation with carbon and Nitrogen. Quercus brantii had the most correlation with Caco3.Third group was Acer monspessulanum. The most important factor for separation this group was elevation and clay. Amygdalus orientalis group had high correlation with elevation. These two above mentioned groups were located in high elevation. Astragalus liyciodes was indicator species in another distinct group in study region with high level of stoniness percentage. Astragalus group was where soil stoniness was high. Results also showed that groups in high elevation had lower richness.}
