\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
Food security is defined as: ``all people, at all times, having the physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food in order to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life''. This is however threatened by the fast rate at which the aquatic natural resources is depleted not only due to over"=exploitation of the resources but also due to pollution, environmental degradation, land reclamation and in recent times climate change. There is therefore the need to stern this trend so as to reduce rate of food insecurity. The study therefore looks s at aquaculture as a tool for food security and sustainable livelihood
.

A stratified sampling technique was used to select 58 lagoon, 15 coastal and 15 riverine fishing communities in Lagos State. A total of 311 respondents were interviewed using structured questionnaire. Data collected include socio"=economic characteristics, livelihood parameters, and credit data. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, t test and regression analysis.

The result shows that \mbox{61.4\,\%} of the respondent are involved in capture fisheries only \mbox{26.4\,\%} are involved in culture fisheries while \mbox{12.2\,\%} are involved in both capture and culture fishery. Regression analysis showed that 13 explanatory variables combined to explain R$^{2}$= 0.98 of the variation in gross margins of respondents of lagoon, coastal and riverine communities respectively.

All sectors of civil society must work together if we are to succeed in our objective to achieve food for all. Investing in aquaculture for food security means that grassroots and local efforts together with government, the private sector should all be focused on a common vision and agenda for food security.
