\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
The research was conducted in two successive seasons to compare the effect of organic nutrient sources, in three varieties of pepper. The experiment was designed to test two factors, namely variety (?Rodo', NHA1 ?Sombo and NHB1- Bawa) and three rates of Tithonia ?based compost (2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 t\,ha\textsuperscript{-1}) in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The non fertilized plants and those that were fertilized with recommended rate of NPK mineral fertilizer served as control. Results showed that application of compost enhanced the growth, dry matter and fruit yield of the 3 pepper varieties used in the study. The morphological parameters taken indicated no consistent trend however, non fertilized treatment gave least values for most of these parameters.  Irrespective of variety, fruit yield was highest in 5.0 t\,ha\textsuperscript{-1} compost rate and this was similar to what was obtained with 7.5 t\,ha\textsuperscript{-1} compost and NPK treatments .With regards to nutrient contents, application of 2.5 t\,ha\textsuperscript{-1} compost produced fruits with highest ascorbic acid / vitamin C in two varieties (Rodo and NHBI Bawa) when compared with other treatments. It was concluded that application of Tithonia compost as organic fertilizer is feasible for production of any of the three pepper varieties used in this study in the guinea savanna zone of Nigeria.   }
