The Brazilian Cerrado is considered the ``water cradle'' of the country, with important springs from South American basins such as the Platina, Amazonas and São Francisco basins. The predominance of highland in the central Brazil provides conditions for drainage surface water to lower regions. This nuclear region of the Cerrado represents a basin divisor, with a profusion of springs, an infinite network of small lotic ecosystems, and lakes and wetlands formed by the upwelling groundwater. The Cerrado in central Brazil comprises a region of springs and watersheds with a high value as water sources, but the water resources management must be directed to accumulate this water in reservoirs for human regional uses. The volume of water on the continents is finite and the springs are irregularly distributed. Currently, in central Brazil the water availability gradually decreases due to environmental degradation, growth disordered population and the expansion of agricultural frontiers.  The high density of aquatic macrophytes plays a relevant paper on the laggon metabolism. This vegetal bulk has an ecological relationship with lagoon aquatic flora and fauna. Macrophyte areas represent important refuge, feeding or nursery habitats for aquatic organisms. These functional roles are attributed, mainly, to the associated food availability and to the structural complexity that promotes protection and a diversity of microhabitats. Natural lagoons formed by the upwelling of groundwater are typical lentic systems in this region. Microfauna of seven lagoons located in the São Bartolomeu basin (central Brazil) was evaluated and related to human use of the surrounded area. In shallow lagoons, there was a predominance of groups associated to sediment as:  Chydoridae-Sididae (Cladocera) and Harpacticoida (Copepoda).  In contrast, in deeper lagoons there was a predominance of limnetic groups as Calanoida (Copepoda). Higher biodiversity was observed in shallower lagoons within a heterogeneity formed by macrophytes banks. Lagoons located near to urban or recreational area tended to have lower richness species.
