\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
Agriculture remains the back bone of most economies in the developing countries except of recent countries like China and India which have grown in the provision of goods and services. In Sub-Saharan Africa most of the people live in the rural areas and are employed by agriculture which contributes over \mbox{50\,\%} to its GDP, making it a life wire for the economy. Most households in Sub-Saharan Africa and Cameroon in particular live on subsistence agriculture which is very critical to how secured the people are during periods of drought or other adverse climatic conditions. Over the past decades there has been increasing production of food in Cameroon.

The main objective of my research will be to investigate food security in the rural areas of Cameroon. Investigate government and community rural development policies. How will they increase food production without reducing the resources for future generations that is the aspect of the environment and sustainability?

In Cameroon, human and natural factors influence food production. Cameroon does not have the industry that flourish in the developed countries, but there is increasing research and use of fertilisers to increase food production. Most of the food is produced in rural areas which is the major form of survival and income generation activity while differences exists across the country. This can be reflected through the distribution of ecosystems, culture, main staple food produced, agro"=ecological zones, natural and human resources. Rural livelihood or survival does not only centre on agriculture but there are so many other activities carried out in rural areas. The rural people face a lot of challenges in trying to improve their livelihoods especially young people and women. There is also the aspects of the environment and sustainable use of the available resources to be considered.}
