On an area basis, grasslands contribute significantly to Argentina's land surface and an important share is devoted to cattle grazing. Even though grasslands are flexible facing anthropogenic disturbances, mismanagement of these areas could alter drastically their semi"=natural characteristics. On the opposite, appropriate management may improve them. Stocking rate is a key factor which is normally estimated in order to influence grasslands sustainable production. In Corrientes so like in Argentina, stocking rates are usually calculated considering only livestock population on a total area basis. Therefore, conventional estimates indicate that stocking rates in Corrientes are about or even below 0.5 animal units per ha$^{-1}$ and far below grassland's carrying capacity. However, this is only a rough estimate which lacks land use and land cover details. For that reason, detailed land cover information and quantification of real rangeland area are required. Besides that, and especially on a climate change scenario, this information and the combination of current livestock population may potentially help when looking for adaptation strategies. Therefore, the aim of this work was to accurately calculate the current stocking rates for each Department in the Corrientes Province. A Geographic Information System (GIS) was developed for an adjusted area calculation. After that, adjusted area resulted by extracting all non"=grassland areas from the total land cover. Moreover, different percentage of available grazing resource area was considered depending on each specific land cover (like for example forest, swamps, etc.). Accurate stocking rates calculated for the whole Corrientes Province indicated that current rates are, in average, higher than those calculated only on a total area basis. This work presents a more realistic appraisal of livestock grazing pressure in Corrientes.}
