The northern Khorasan province is located in north- east of Iran between latitude 36\textdegree{} 36' and longitudes 55\textdegree{} 24' east of northern hemisphere. The mean altitude of the region is \mbox{1326\,m} above sea level and total area approximately 28\,347 km$^{2}$. The climate of this province is classified as semi arid and temperate in general. Since climatic factors have important role in agricultural production and also according to environmental potentials of the North Khorasan province, agro climatic zoning of dry land wheat was set as the aim of this research. For this reason long term climatic data of 17 rain gauge stations, 5 evaporimeter stations and 7 synoptic stations from inside and outside of the province were used.



The elements which selected for the research were the probability of annual precipitation 300 mm and more, the amount of fall, spring and June's rainfall, optimum temperature of budding period, thermal stress during flowering and seed filling stages. Then with using of suitable climatic conditions, data layers prepared and classified. Finally, by composing maps in a GIS environment final map was derived that showed climatic potentials for farming dry land wheat in the province. So, it clears the areas in the north part of the province have appropriate climatic conditions for dry land farming. The poor climatic Zoning is located in south west and south east of the province. So, with respect to initiation date of autumn's rainfall and suitable conditions of farming dry land wheat the date of sowing suggested for this crop.



The aim of this study is to identify the areas which are favourable for dry land wheat in the region.
