Evaluation of potentially useful unconventional feed resources in tropical and sub"=tropical countries is an imperative option in order to increase the resource base for livestock production. Feed parts of \textit{Moringa }stenopetala and \textit{Moringa }olifera have been increasingly considered as an alternative source of palatable fodder and nutritive leaves for feeding livestock. Farmers in Africa reported that the leaf part and green pod of \textit{Moringa }tree is exclusively used for feeding their livestock during drought periods. Nevertheless, information on the nutrient composition of various parts of both \textit{Moringa }species used in animal production is scarce. 



We analysed the nutrient composition of leaf and green pod parts of both \textit{Moringa }stenopetala and \textit{Moringa }olifera. To this effect, a total of 60 feed samples from leaf and green pod (with and without seed) were collected in the rift valley parts of southern Ethiopia. The collected feed samples were air dried and ground to pass 1mm sieve size and transported to University of Hohenheim, Germany for laboratory analysis. All nutrient compositions including amino acids (essentials and semi essentials), minerals (major and trace) and anti"=nutritional factors (tannins and phytates) were determined from leaf and green pod parts of both \textit{Moringa }species. 



The primary advantage of this research is that the nutrient composition and nutritional values of both \textit{Moringa }species will be investigated and documented. This eventually would serve as a source of information to policy makers for further intervention actions to reduce poverty in tropical poor countries. Moreover, the obtained information would be used by farmers and private investors in the agriculture sector for strategic supplementation of livestock during dry seasons thereby enhancing food security in the rural as well as urban community.
