Due to the large variation in climate and soil a wide range of vegetation types is found in Sudan. The majeure ecological zones and their vegetation structure are highlighted in this contribution describing the main vegetation features in the desert and semi desert, the savannah with its different sub divisions, the river and flood regions, rain forest and montane zone and the Red sea coast representing examples for some ecological zones and their occurrence in the ecological echogram.  







These variations in the vegetation composition during the different ecological zones lead to the need of different methods for studying the vegetation cover in the country concerning the different purposes, scientific research, management plans, decision makers and nature conservation.







The sequence of the vegetation methodology represented in this contribution is the applicable by the agricultural research centre in Sudan, ARC the responsible authority of national vegetation classification and it represent the tow ways of choosing the suitable methods then the sequence and data flow process to produce the final vegetation product in term of report or vegetation maps.   







Motivated by the environmental problems causing the change in the vegetation composition in the world and the particular serious problems in Sudan aims this contribution to overview the vegetation structure in Sudan and the common methods used to analyse vegetation composition and structure.  







The vegetation structure in Sudan is various due to the environmental conditions affecting the distributions of the ecological zones, although it is affected by the global warming effect which is much more clear in the north part of the country while the degradation in the south part   caused by many other factors like deforestation by cutting, fire and grassing and the savannahisation is much more clear in this part.}
