Agricultural in Ghana is characterised by low yield and productivity, which are compounded in the long run by production shocks due to environmental stresses such as drought, pest and diseases. Chemical pesticides and, to a limited extent, integrated pest management (IPM) practices have been applied to control the pest and diseases but with limited success. Pesticide use has been ineffective, leading to application of higher doses by most farmers. The use of mutagenesis to address pest and disease problems became an option in terms of its feasibility, cost effectiveness, and the long"=term impact on productivity and yield stability. 



In Ghana, cassava serves as the second most important source of calories, an inexpensive and essential food for the poor, and an emerging cash crop. Production constraints include cassava mosaic disease, cassava bacteria blight, arthropod pests, and other biotic and abiotic stresses. Farmers' success in marketing their cassava has also fallen well short of its potential due to problems such as rapid post"=harvest deterioration and inadequate starch and protein content in the roots.



Conventional breeding efforts attempting to address many of the constraints to cassava's productivity have had some success such as the TECH BANKYI developed by the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in collaboration with the Biotechnology and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. Therefore, this research analysed the actual impact of mutant cassava on these adopters or producers, consumers and the environment as a whole. 



The results favoured the hypothesis that, there is significant increased in the productions cost of this new variety compared to the traditional one.



According to the result, most farmers are desisting from Tek"=bankye production due to it high production cost as a result of vigorous weed growth since the variety cannot form canopy. Also the neck according to them is very short making it susceptible to infections and deterioration after harvesting. With the  Cocoa, no count of swollen shoot virus have been made so far as far as mutant cocoa is concerned compare to non mutant ones.}
