\textbf{Abstract}

Cardiovascular diseases is becoming a popular disease affecting affluent society of man, aetiology of these diseases have suggested that abnormal lipids in animal products such as meat and eggs are risk factors in the development of this diseases. As a result of this, animal scientist involved in researches to development of save food for human consumption have developed interest in the production of saver eggs for human consumption, targeting reduction of yolk lipids such as cholesterol and triacyglycerol. This was what led to the research work.

For the research work, eighty (80) point of lay (POL) hens of Nera black were fed dietary garlic oil and cholestyramine. The birds were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments containing \unitfrac[50]{mg}{kg} cholestyramine and \unitfrac[100]{mg}{kg} garlic oil in T1, \unitfrac[100]{mg}{kg} and \unitfrac[100]{mg}{kg} cholestyramine and garlic oil in T2, \unitfrac[50]{mg}{kg} and \unitfrac[200]{mg}{kg} cholestyramine and garlic oil in T3, \unitfrac[100]{mg}{kg} cholestyramine and \unitfrac[200]{mg}{kg} garlic oil in T4. Control diet was not supplemented. There were two replicates per treatment with birds randomly distributed in a 2\,$\times$\,2 factorial arrangement.

There were no negative effects of the test ingredients on laying performance except egg weight which was reduced. Yolk cholesterol was lowered by garlic oil whereas cholestyramine did not have significant effect on yolk cholesterol and triacyglycerol. It was concluded that \unitfrac[100]{mg}{kg} garlic oil in layers diet can be use to reduce yolk cholesterol without hampering the laying performance except the egg weight.

This paper presents the relationships between hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular diseases and low cholesterol eggs produced from commercial layers with the possibility of preventing cardiovascular diseases through consumption of low cholesterol egg in order to ensure a healthy human society.
