Recently, the demand of processing potatoes in Indonesia tends to increase; however the production of processed potato is low and depends on imported raw materials for most of uses. Therefore, the introduction of new local varieties for producing processing potatoes is necessary to reduce the dependency. 



The cultivar (cv.) Granola, the most widely cultivated potato variety in Indonesia, is appropriate for table purposes, whereas the cv. Atlantik is the main variety for processing.  



The aim of the present research was to study the tuber quality of three new local varieties (cvs. Tenggo, Krespo and Ping 06) and to compare them with the established cvs.  Granola and Atlantik. The seed potatoes were obtained from Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute (IVegRI). 



The five potatoes varieties were cultivated from August to November 2009 in silt loamy soil in Central Java, Indonesia. Pest management and fertiliser were applied as the farmers practice. 



The result showed that cv. Ping 06 produced the highest yield, whereas cvs. Tenggo and Krespo were not different from cvs.  Atlantik and Granola. Dry matter content of more than \mbox{20\,\%} as the minimum requirement for the raw material of processing potatoes, were found in cvs. Tenggo, Krespo and Atlantik. Starch content of cvs.Tenggo, Krespo and Atlantik were higher than of the cvs. Ping 06 and Granola.  There were no differences observed on the other quality parameters like ascorbic acid, chlorogenic acid, K, Mg and Mn content of the tuber.



Based on this result, the cvs. Tenggo and Krespo are promised tubers as raw material of processing potato.
