\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}

Agriculture as the main core of rural development in developing countries deals with environmental crisis such as land degradation and salinisation, diminished availability of water, deterioration of water quality, destruction of forests and environment in recent years. So the rural people face with two solutions in order to make a livelihood and avoid hunger: to continue the exploitation of natural resources because they don't have any supportive assets especially in poor developing countries and, or finding other sources to have a sustain livelihood. The former being concerned with ``Vicious Circle'' thesis that express the relationship between using natural resources and poverty. The important point here is that the more dependent rural poor are on the natural resources for livelihood, the more vulnerable they are to environmental degradations. Moreover, if the possibility of such exploitations is not effectively reduced, poverty severity is inevitable. This situation threats the sustainability of rural areas especially from the social point of views and makes them weaker. It seems the rural people should find more secure strategies to break the closed loop between poverty and environmental degradation. The Rural Non Farm Economy (RNFE) shared as a solution to keep the production potential in rural areas. It is emphasised that the whole dimensions of sustainability namely economic, social and environmental must be considered to again access to sustainable development in rural areas. But what we would like to delve into this article is the analysis of RNFE approach, its importance, its potentials and weaknesses in rural development. This allows challenging poverty situation and rural vulnerability in developing countries, and then considers the RNFE's effects on agricultural activities and rural sustainable development with regard to its economic, environmental and social dimensions.}
