The study was conducted to assess the growth performance of broiler chickens of varying age fed diet containing differently processed soybean meal in place of the conventional defatted soybean meal. A batch of 250 Anak strain broiler day old chicks was purchased for the experiment. In phase I (1--3 weeks old), seventy two (72) day old chicks were randomly selected from the batch and randomly alloted into 3 treatments with \unitfrac[8]{birds}{replicate} of 3. In phase II (3--6 weeks old), fifty four (54) growing broiler chickens were also selected from the initial batch for this study. There were three treatments and each were replicated three times with six \textbf{(6)}~birds per replicate. Phase III had forty five (45) birds (age 6--9 weeks) carefully selected from the initial batch, distributed into three \textbf{(3)}~treatments and replicated three \textbf{(3)}~times with five \textbf{(5)}~chickens per replicate. After each selection, the rest birds were fed on commercial diet. The three basal diets contained differently processed soybean for the three phases; Diet A (\mbox{25\,\%} cooked soybean meal), Diet B (\mbox{25\,\%} roasted soybean meal) and Diet C (\mbox{25\,\%} defatted soybean meal), which was the control diet. In phase I, the weight gain (WG) of chicks fed on roasted and defatted soybean meal"=based diets were significantly (P\&\#706;0.05) higher (41.6--\unitfrac[44.2]{g}{chick}/day) than those fed on cooked soybean meal"=based diet (\unitfrac[30.3]{g}{chick}/day). The same trend was observed for feed consumption (FC). However, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was not significantly (P\&\#707;0.05) affected. In phase II, growing broiler chickens fed on defatted soybean meal"=based diet had significantly (P\&\#706;0.05) higher WG (\unitfrac[150]{g}{chick}/day) than those fed on cooked and roasted soybean meal"=based diets (123.0--\unitfrac[128.6]{g}{chick}/day) but the FC and FCR were not significantly (P\&\#707;0.05) influenced by the dietary treatments. In phase III, the WG, FC and FCR were not significantly (P\&\#707;0.05) influenced by the dietary treatments. From the foregoing, between age 1 and 3 weeks, roasted soybean meal could be used in place of the conventional defatted soybean meal, but between 6 and 9 weeks of age, either cooked or roasted soybean meal could be used in place of defatted soybean meal.}
