Three goats fitted with rumen cannula were used to determine the effects of \textit{Yucca schidigera} extract(YSE) , at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 mg per 1 g substrate, on the pH, NH$_{3}^{}$-N concentration, VFA, microorganism protein production and the production of CH$_{4}^{}$ and accumulated gas in culture \textit{in~vitro} incubation . The results were described as follow: the pH value increased with YSE increasing ($p < 0.05$), while the concentration of NH$_{3}^{}$-N, the production of CH$_{4}^{}$ and accumulated gas, the protozoa density and the concentration of the protozoa protein of supplying YSE at 4 and 8mg/(g substrate) was up \textbf{THIS IS NOT CLEAR, EXPLAIN! }to the control, while the protozoa protein of supplying YSE at 2 and 6mg/(g substrate) and the bacterial protein of supplying YSE were decreased. But, the protozoa protein of supplying YSE at 4 and 8mg/(g substrate) was up to the control, while the protozoa protein of supplying YSE at 2 and 6mg/(g substrate) and the bacterial protein of supplying YSE were decreased. Total VFA suppressed by Yucca schidigera extract gradually. The protozoa population got the lowest peak amplitude when addition of YSE at 6 mg/(g substrate). The microbial biomass and the ratios of A:P(acetate: propionate) were variation with the different additive of Yucca schidigera extract($p < 0.05$).It was concluded that YSE could be used as rumen adjusting agent, slowing down the acid production of rumen microbial Fermentation, to stable the fermentation environment of rumen. Administration of YSE numerically decreased protozoa numbers and methane production, especially YSE at 6 mg per 1 g substrate. The effects of YSE on ruminal ammonia and VFA concentration likely resulted from a decrease in the concentration of protozoan and, presumably, from the ammonia binding by YSE. It was indicated that YSE may have potential as beneficial manipulator and methane inhibitor of rumen fermentation.
