Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq. \textit{Swietenia macrophylla} and S. are most valuable wooded species in the world and belong to the family Meliaceae. It is known as the common names of mahogany. Today these species are hardly traded and have been included in Appendix II of CITES as threatened. Due to the increasing demand for forest products is becoming increasingly necessary to the establishment and development of more efficient methods of propagation. This research was realised with the aim of studying the influence of genotype on somatic embryogenesis in two species of mahogany S.mahagoni (L.) Jaqc. and \textit{S.~macrophylla} K. semisolid culture medium to which were used as starting material cotyledon sections. The results showed that in S. mahagoni achieved a 95.30\%\% of callus formation) from cotyledon sections, while in \textit{S.~macrophylla} was obtained \mbox{97.02\,\%}. In the formation and differentiation of somatic embryos the best result was achieved with a concentration of 4.0 mg.L$^{-1}$, which were obtained with the highest percentages of ESAF and ESBF for S. mahagoni (\mbox{55.0\,\%} and \mbox{92.0\,\%}) and \textit{S.~macrophylla} (\mbox{41.02\,\%} and \mbox{20.51\,\%}). In the species S. mahagoni only won \mbox{36.7\,\%} of somatic embryos per callus and globular stage embryos, torpedo and cotyledonal, while a s.macrophylla was \mbox{43.35\,\%}. It showed the need for both species in a maturation phase to increase the percentage of germination of somatic embryos for both species. The highest percentages of full germination (\mbox{72.0\,\%} and \mbox{82.8\,\%}) and partial (\mbox{54.0\,\%} and \mbox{60.0\,\%}) were achieved in a culture medium supplemented with 0.25 mg.L$^{-1}$ of 6-BAP. }
