Stone leek leafminer  (\textit{Liriomyza  chinensis}) is an exotic pest that currently has  become a new major pest at the onion plantation -- one of the advantage commodity -- in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study was conducted at a  farmer 's  field in Palu in 2009 and divided in two phase. In the first phase the  study  was aimed to investigated the resistance of three local variety of onion in Palu against \textit{L. chinensis}. The  experiment was arranged in a randomised complete design with 3 treatment of local onion varieties on (Palu, Palasa, and Tinombo) and 6 replicates. In the first phase, the onion plant were  grown in plot of \mbox{6\,m}\,$\times$\,\mbox{4\,m}.  From each  plot, 10 plant samples were randomly chosen as a sample to observe some variables measured: percentage of attacked, plant height, and the yield. In the second phase, the Palu variety was selected to test the effectiveness of the yellow sticky trap for reducing the pest attacks. The experiment were arranged in a randomised complete design with 2 treatment  (with and without the traps) and 5 replicates. The number of  leafminer at the traps and mines at the plant samples were counted every week from 2 to 8 week after planting. The results of the first study showed that all onion varieties tested were susceptible to \textit{L. chinensis}. The average of  damaged by \textit{L. chinensis} in Palu, Palasa, and Tinombo variety were 48.1, 47.6, and \mbox{65.9\,\%}, respectively. This showed that  Palu and Palasa varieties tend to be more resistance to \textit{L. chinensis }as also indicated by the weight of their tubers. The relation between the onion damaged by \textit{L. chinensis} and the morphological character of each variety were discussed.  While the second study demonstrated that the yellow sticky trap had considerable effect on reducing the population of \textit{L. chinensis }at the onion plantation. The leaf damage at the onion plantation where the traps placed were significantly lower than at the control (without traps). Each traps could catch \textit{L. chinensis} adult between 89 to \unitfrac[325]{individual}{weeks} indicating that this methods was effective for controlling \textit{L. chinensis}.}
