A study was carried out to characterise presentations in conferences of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP) over a period of seven years (1991--1997). Data obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that a total of 1261 papers were presented during the seven"=year period. From the total number of papers presented, scientific research had 775 papers (\mbox{61.5\,\%}), case report had 45 papers (\mbox{3.6\,\%}), Review papers had 248 papers (\mbox{19.7\,\%}) and survey had 193 papers (\mbox{15.3\,\%}). Based on specialty, Monogastric Nutrition and Management (MNM) had the highest number of papers with 208 papers (\mbox{16.5\,\%}) while Animal Biotechnology (AB) had the least with 3 papers (\mbox{0.2\,\%}). Based on species, Poultry had the lead with 396 papers (\mbox{31.4\,\%}) while Manatees, Bee, Bush hare, Crab, Periwinkle and Cats had the least numbers with only 1 paper each. Based on type of animals, monogastric animals had the highest rate of presentation with 499 papers (\mbox{39.6\,\%}) while mixed animals had the least with 74 papers (\mbox{5.9\,\%}). In conclusion, poultry research was given a lot of priority probably due to their availability, prolific nature, relatively short production cycle and ease of marketing of products. Therefore, Monogastric Nutrition and Management (MNM) received more attention than any other specialty of Animal Production during the seven years reviewed and was identified as the most studied specialty. It is recommended that NSAP members should endeavour to attract attention of young scientists toward building a career in neglected specialties, such as Animal Biotechnology, Animal Waste Management and Wildlife Management and Production, through hosting of career talks, shows and exhibitions.}
