\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
Occurrence of water stress during grain filling stage and grain yield reduction is known in the arid and semi arid region such as Iran. This research was conducted in other to investigate the effects of water stress during cell division (stage 1, water limitation from anthesis for 14 days) and grain filling stage (stage 2, water limitation 14 days after anthesis till maturity) as compare to the control, on soluble sugars remobilisation from peduncle and penultimate. The experiment was carried out in greenhouse with using two wheat cultivars including Marvdasht and Zagrose (sensitive and resistant to post anthesis water stress respectively). A factorial experiment on the bases of RCBD with three replications was used. Results showed that remobilisation of soluble sugars from penultimate was higher than peduncle, with higher extend in the Zagros. In both cultivars, the remobilisation efficiency and amounts of the total soluble sugars in the penultimate were significantly higher than peduncle. Water deficit significantly increased soluble sugar remobilisation from peduncle and penultimate to the grains. Water stress had no significant effect on starch concentration in peduncle and penultimate of cultivars. Maximum concentration of glucose, fructose and sucrose and fructan in peduncle and penultimate were observed at 7 and 14 days after anthesis respectively. When water stress imposed during stage 1, concentration of sugars decreased more significantly in peduncle and penultimate as compared to the other stage. Reduction of concentration of these sugars in the stems of Marvdasht was more than of Zagrose. This investigation showed that the remobilisation of soluble sugars from stem to grains has mean role in the filling the grains during water stress, and declared that when water availability is limited, mass of soluble sugars in the stems is more important than sugar remobilisation efficiency. In wheat genotypes these characteristics have genetic variations and can be use in wheat breeding programs. }
