\textbf{Abstract}

Irregular use of soil, pricing policy, land use and land management systems, unsuitable technology and no acceptance of soil conservation practices by local farmers are the main factors that cause to soil degradation. Therefore soil conservation measures can prevent soil erosion socio"=economic issues, increase productivity index, improve food security and sustainable agriculture. Soil erosion increase caused by misusing of soil resources, no soil conservation practices in steep slop farmland, unsuitable condition of farmlands, so socio"=economic factors is very important issues in acceptance of conservation measures for decreasing soil erosion costs in different watersheds in Iran. The main objective of this study was evaluation of socioeconomic factors in acceptance of soil conservation measures in a watershed in Iran. Because of land degradation rate in this watershed, government implemented soil conservation measures in last 5 years. Study watershed, Chamany, is located in Golestan province in northeast of Iran with \mbox{25683.1\,ha} area and mean annual rainfall 629 mm. There are 30 villages in this watershed with total 14068 populations. Watershed management office (WMO) has carried out a soil conservation project in this watershed. After 5 years of project implementation in this watershed total land area of terracing was about \mbox{116\,ha}. Because farmers participation is very important in future of project and also successfully of project so evaluation of important factors in acceptance and no acceptance of terracing is important in project achievements. For this purpose collection of data carried out by questionnaire survey. Collected data consist of three sections: -individual characteristics, -farmlands, characteristics and -awareness level of farmers on soil conservation practices. Results showed that there is significant correlation between farmers, age, ownership and terracing acceptance. The results showed that terracing acceptance was influenced by farm size and slop, awareness level of farmers and participation in extension services. These findings help (WMO) to adopt their policy in soil conservation in Chamani watershed.
