\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
Iran enjoys one of richest floras of the world that is strongly interrelated with its cultural and socio"=economic context. In order to evaluate the domestication potential of \textit{Zataria multiflora }Boiss. as an important naturally exploited plant in Iran and its germination reaction in different cultivation contexts, by providing 400 cuttings of \textit{Zataria multiflora} from Khoomi Mountains, in southwest of Iran, an experiment was carried out during January/February 2008. For the first time in Iran, in a low"=light greenhouse situations, through a completely randomised design, four treatments including: I. equally mixture of humus+ building sand+ goat manure, II. building sand, III. mixture of building sand + goat manure and IV. completely humus and for each, 100 replications were selected to evaluate their germination patterns.

The results showed that germination rate was earlier for treatment II. building sand, and \mbox{15\,\%} were germinated in 7\textsuperscript{th} day whereas for other treatments germination started at 10\textsuperscript{th} day. As a final point after 20 days, the comparison showed that germinated replications were significantly different between treatments (Pearson X\textsuperscript{2}= 34.141, sig = 0.000) and treatment II. building sand  was the best milieu (8, 44, 24 and 27 percentage of germination for treatments I, II, III, IV,  respectively). In mixture of humus, goat manure and building sand, the least germination was observed whereas in sandy milieu, because of best aeration and penetration space for development of radicles and sprouts, germination condition was better provided. Due to importance of the plant for local inhabitants and relentlessly exploitation patterns, domestication of \textit{Zataria multiflora} can be a very suitable option, both economically and environmentally.   }
