\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}
\normalsize{
It is confirmed that the non durable exploitation of the forest and the extensive agriculture in practice nowadays lead in the short term, to the shortage of fire wood, and to the destruction of the environment. One of ways to preserve this resource is the use of efficient cook stoves. In this paper, the method of « water boiling » is used to investigate the performances of different types of kitchen stoves.

In contribution to the harmonisation of the stove designation, a codification procedure is proposed. Four types of stove have been tested: on the one hand, we have the « Cloporte » rim cook stove and the « Cloporte » malagasy cook stove; these 2 traditional stoves are used as reference. On the other hand, we have the basic « Sakkanal » and the improved « Sakkanal » stoves. For each type, a sample of 3 stoves has been selected. Each stove has been tested with 3 repetitions. The analysis is based on the fuel savings and the cooking time saving.

The major results are the followings: inside the traditional stoves group, the best fuel saving is obtained with the Malagasy stove (\mbox{37.8\,\%}) compared to the rim cook stove which, on the contrary shows better performances in cooking time saving (\mbox{30.8\,\%}).

Globally, all the « Sakkanal » stoves have a better efficiency than the traditional sample. The best fuel saving is obtained with the improved « Sakkanal » stove: respectively \mbox{54.2\,\%} and \mbox{26.4\,\%} of fuel saving in comparison with the rim and the Malagasy stoves, against \mbox{48.5\,\%} and \mbox{17.2\,\%} for the basic « Sakkanal ». As far as the cooking time saving is concerned, an opposite scheme is observed. The basic « Sakkanal » stove is better than the improved one; the savings are respectively \mbox{10.2\,\%} and \mbox{37.2\,\%} for the basic « Sakkanal » and \mbox{1.6\,\%} and \mbox{31.9\,\%} for the improved « Sakkanal », in comparison with the rim and the Malagasy stoves.
