\textbf{Abstract}
\begin{abstract}

In Tanzania the agricultural production is mostly dominated by smallholder farmers. A large number of farmers they do practice organic farming; this could give opportunity for majority to benefit the market offered for organic agricultural products. The fresh fruits have high potential for Tanzania in the local and international market. A study was done between 2005 and 2006 to assess the opportunities and constraints for organic fruits production in Tanzania. The semi"=structured interviews and focus group discussions were used to collect information with mango, pineapple and yellow passion fruits growers. Farmers have realised that through organic farming they can increase household incomes, because they can benefit from cash savings, as there is no need to purchase synthetic pesticides and fertilisers. More than 80 percent of the respondents in each village use crop rotation to improve soil fertility in their fields. The results obtained from the study shown that farmers could benefit twice as much per acre on pineapple compared to mango and passion fruits production. In addition, extra income is gained through selling surplus produce, premium prices are obtained for certified organic produce in export markets and some domestic markets, and there is the possibility of adding value to organic products through processing activities, like production of dried fruits. The production of fruit juice concentrates and dry fruits were among the good opportunity to improve household income in the growing regions. High organic certification, cost lack of capital, pest and diseases and, post harvest losses were the most important factors constraining organic fruit production.}
