The world demand and consumption of meat products in human diets is increasing together with health risks of high fat content and wrong eating habits. Customer demand for venison and game meat, which are claimed to be low"=fat meat and particularly suitable for use in convenience"=oriented products, has dramatically increased in recent years. Because the eland (Taurotragus oryx) is the candidate for farming and the essential parameters of eland meat from wild are described only scarcely from Africa, the aim of the study was to compare eland and Czech Fleckvieh cattle growth intensity, carcass and meat composition in the Czech Republic under farming condition. We compare the growth intensity, carcass and meat composition of 5 bulls of eland and 5 bulls of Czech Fleckvieh cattle. Elands and cattle were fed with comparable feed mixture based on corn silage and Lucerne haylage. The fattening was approximately 2.5 times longer in eland (LSMeans $\pm$ SEM, 1087 $\pm$ 35 days) than in cattle (445 $\pm$ 32 days) to reach \mbox{500\,kg}. Although, the carcass weight and dressing percentage were comparable, cattle had higher proportion of intramuscular fat and lower protein content. The amount of meat from carcass (shoulder, rump) and removable fat was also higher in cattle. The eland meat was darker and reddish. The low fat content of farmed eland meat is promising as a positive health aspect for human nutrition, but longer fattening performance would suppress the economical interests of farmers in the Czech Republic. Therefore, the study on improvement of eland nutrition to support growth intensity under farming system would be essential. }
