Current debates on intrahousehold resource allocation highlight how the distribution of resource within household maters to household welfare. Collective models of the household embrace that individuals within households have different preferences instead of assume household as a resource pooling box. Hence, the collective models found that resource on the hand of women might be translated differently towards household demand on commodities, nutrition and health than that of men. Using the Indonesian setting with its cultural complexity on the distribution of power issue, this paper examines the role of women's asset and decision making on food security as one of key aspects of household welfare. In more detail, asset brought by women at the time of marriage is employed as one of measures of power. Asset brought to marriage reflects greater women's power in the household. In addition, how decision making on household expenditure and time use whether it is the wives' single decision or joint decision between the husbands and the wives and other household members, is also used to approach the power of women in the household. The rich longitudinal dataset of Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) is employed in this study. The main findings follow. Women's asset plays greater role than that of men on household food security. Furthermore, more liquid asset on the hand of women, such as savings and jewelry have a significant role for household to be more food secured. Despite the nature of women more involved in home production including food expenditure decision, women who brought asset on marriage have more power in decision making. The tobit model shows that women's asset has greater effect on expenditure of richer nutrient food than that of men. In addition, mothers with asset at the time of marriage are more powerful to allocate resources towards better diet and nutrition and this result also varies across ethnic group. This study hence will provide future direction for the government to more empowering women as one of key elements in food security programs.}
